New Jersey can’t afford another lockdown despite omicron’s appearance

The latest of many COVID-19 strains has been named and national Democrats are posturing for another full-blown lockdown. Across the bridge from where I serve as the mayor of Englewood Cliffs, Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York wasted no time in declaring a state of emergency, reinstating a mask mandate, and announcing a potential ban on all elective surgeries. Whatever happened to follow the science?

What we’re witnessing in New York is not a science-based move to battle the virus, but another alarming example of the Democrat party’s lust for panic. And while there are currently no new mandates in New Jersey and Gov. Phil Murphy has pushed back on the notion of a new lockdown, many other governors have enacted new orders in the past several days.

Perhaps, it makes sense to enforce stricter procedures where there’s group living like at nursing homes, but for the rest of us — especially those who are already vaccinated — Omicron symptoms may not show or affect us nearly as strongly according to health experts across the globe.
